THE CLUB: The Greater Kansas City Dog Training Club is the only licensed AKC club in this area that is devoted to Obedience training. The club is a non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers. We train dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages. A dog is never to old to learn! Our instructors have trained and shown in AKC trials, and follow carefully designed lesson plans.

THE TRAINING: Beginner training consists of 6 one-hour classes including the Puppy Class. Advance Beginner is 5 one-hour class with the last class being the Canine Good Citizenship (CGC) test. DOGS COME TO THE FIRST
CLASS.   Obedience training is education for you–teaching you to teach your dog to obey your commands. The actual training is your responsibility. You must plan to train your dog for a few minutes every day in order to get the full benefit of the class.

THE TRAINER:  You are the trainer. Trainers must be capable of handling the dog. Young trainers must be at least 12 years old to enroll in a class, must be capable of handling the dog and must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Family members are welcome to attend, but children must be supervised at all times.

NUTRITION AND SANITATION: Do not feed your dog before coming to class. Please exercise your dog at home or in the appropriate areas before entering the building. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs – inside and outside!

INOCULATIONS: You must certify that your dog has been vaccinated against rabies and parvo, and you must provide the rabies tag number.
FOR LADIES ONLY: Bitches in season are not permitted at the training building. If your bitch comes in season, leave her at home and come to class anyways. You’ll be surprised at how much you can learn. Unless you plan on showing your dog in conformation classes, spay or neuter for added health benefits and protection. Ask your Vet!

EQUIPMENT:  All trainers are required to use equipment approved by the Training Committee. For Puppy and Beginner classes, you will need a leather or nylon lead, a buckle or snap collar for Beginners. A long line is optional. A training collar is provided free to all Beginner dogs. Correct equipment is offered for sale at cost at the training building.  Schedule follows the requirements!

Classes are for people and dogs to have fun with each other and not for just competition in obedience shows. NOT FOR REGISTERED DOGS ONLY…EVERYONE IS WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED!
